Patrick Hughes, 38, of Watervliet, was found guilty of one count of predatory sexual assault against a child, a felony, one count of rape in the first degree, a felony, one count of rape in the second degree, a felony, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors, on Monday, March 5, according to Albany County District Attorney David Soares’ office.
Hughes faces 50 years to life in prison when sentenced in April, according to information from Soares’ office.
From 2003-09, Hughes engaged in criminal sexual activity with his stepdaughter, then between 11 and 14 years old, according to information from Soares’ office. There were times that he would use sexual abuse as a form of `punishment` and he was also found guilty of forcing his children and stepdaughter to drink excessive amounts of alcohol, according to information from Soares’ office.
“The actions of this defendant were despicable. I applaud this victim for coming forward and facing this defendant in open court. Her strength and bravery are a testament to how far she has come on an almost impossible journey. No child should ever face what she has at the hands of a parent,” said Soares in a statement.
