A man was arrested by Bethlehem Police after a brief car chase that ended near the high school, police said.
The man was heading westbound near Delaware Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Friday when he approached the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and crossed into oncoming traffic nearly causing a head-on collision, according to police. The man’s identity was not released.
An officer observed the reckless driving as he was driving behind the suspect and followed in pursuit, police said. When the officer attempted to get the car to stop, the driver quickly accelerated, causing the officer to chase him, said police.
The chase lasted about five minutes before the driver turned into a cul-de-sac neighborhood and crashed into a basketball hoop near someone’s property. Police then chased the suspect on foot until he was caught and taken into custody, said police.
According to police charges are pending and include misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and numerous traffic violations. No injuries were reported.
Police said there is no further information at this time.
