UPDATE:
Saratoga Spring police said at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, that O’Rourke is now listed in serious condition at Albany Medical Center. He suffered multiple broken bones as well as head and chest trauma, police said.
The incident is still being investigated, and charges are expected pending the outcome.
At 5:35 this morning, the Saratoga Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting a serious personal injury accident on Route. 29 East at Schallehn Road, which is located between Gilbert Road and Old Schuylerville Road.
Police said a black 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche operated by Conan O’Rourke, 41, of Saratoga Springs, was heading west on Route 29, when it was struck by a red 2006 Porsche, being operated by Deborah Britton, 53, of Saratoga Springs.
Police said Britton’s Porsche was following too closely and struck the driver’s side rear of the Avalanche with her passenger side front. The Avalanche then began to turn sideways, went off the road, rolled, struck a guardrail and went sailing through the trees and into a 40-foot deep ravine.
O’Rourke was ejected from the vehicle, police said.
Britton’s Porsche then came to a rest against the guardrails. She was treated at the scene and transported to Saratoga Hospital, where she was treated and released.
O’Rourke was transported to a landing zone at the Wilton Mall and then flown to Albany Medical Center, and police said he is listed in critical condition.
Route 29 was closed for about six hours while police conducted an investigation, and charges are pending.
