A large fight occurred outside of the Foot Locker store at Crossgates Mall on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 4 when a Foot Locker employee informed a crowd waiting in line there would not be enough tickets for all of the people there to enter the store and purchase a new line of Nike sneakers, according to Guilderland police.
The store was scheduled to open at 8 a.m., and the fight between 150 to 200 people began around 6 a.m., police said. When the crowd realized they would not all be able to purchase the sneakers, some members became aggressive and rushed the store gates in an attempt the gain access to the store, police said.
Members of the Crossgates Mall security and Guilderland police attempted to regain control of the situation, but requested additional police response from the Albany Police Department, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, SUNY police, and New York State Police.
Order was soon restored with the help involved and the crowd began to cooperate with the police and Foot Locker staff, police said. No arrests were made and only one minor injury was reported.
