The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reports that a South Bethlehem man was arrested outside the Albany County Judicial Center and charged with DWI.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Barry L. Babcock, 68, of 34 Willow Brook Avenue, dropped his wife off at the Albany County Drug Court. Staff then notified Sheriff’s personnel that there was an alleged intoxicated driver outside.
Sheriff’s personnel observed Babcock in his car, which was parked on Lodge Street in Albany outside the judicial center. While interviewing him, deputies said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Babcock, and said he had slurred speech and glassy eyes.
Deputies said Babcock had several beers at home prior to driving his wife to Albany and was also drinking while waiting for his wife to return.
Babcock was released on his own recognizance after being processed and issued tickets for driving while intoxicated with an open container. He is due in Albany City Court on Dec. 28.
