The Albany County Sheriff’s Department cracked down on illegal handicap parking with a one-day `Project Access` Handicap Parking saturation initiative on Black Friday, Nov. 25, the results of which were announced by Sheriff Craig D. Apple on Monday, Nov. 28.
A total of 38 parking summonses were issued to individuals who parked illegally in designated handicapped parking spaces, with eight summonses being issued by the Colonie Police Department, 25 being issue by the Albany Police Department, one being issued by New York State Police and four issued by Cohoes Police, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
The issued tickets represent a total of $6,710 in fines to be paid, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
The `Project Access` program was first implemented on Dec. 7, 1994 and since its inception, a total of 47 enforcement details have been conducted, with a total of 2,289 summonses issued and a total of $264,620 in fines being levied, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
