Guilderland Police executed a search warrant Nov. 1 inside a Crossgates Mall store they say had counterfeit merchandise on sale.
Police raided the Perfect 10 store and confiscated several items, including shirts, pants, and tops. Police said the items were sold in such a manner that the consumer was led to believe that the items were authentic and name brand.
Police received several complaints about items at the store, prompting an investigation. An undercover operation was then carried out to purchase merchandise, which was confirmed as counterfeit by the manufacturers.
No arrests have been made, and police said store employees cooperated in their investigation, which is ongoing.
Police are warning stores that enforcement action may be taken against stores attempting to sell counterfeit items. They are also warning shoppers that counterfeit goods can be trafficked in a legitimate business, and are urging consumers to ask employees about an item’s authenticity when in doubt.
