ATHENS – The National Bank of Coxsackie presented the Athens Community Food Pantry with a $10,000 donation to support its mission of responding to local food needs. The funds were secured through the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York Small Business Recovery Grant Program. NBC, a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank, applied for the funds made available through this program.
“We are delighted to support the Athens Community Food Pantry and their efforts,” said NBC CEO John Balli. “They play an important role in our local community, and we hope this donation helps them continue their vital impact.”
The Athens Community Food Pantry was started as an outreach program in the 1960s. After closing for a year between 2006 and 2007, the pantry reopened with the help of volunteers and became a member of the Regional Northeast Food Bank in 2008. The pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and delivers to senior citizens on Fridays.
“The Athens Community Food Pantry is honored to receive this generous grant from NBC’s leadership,” said Maggie Apgar, vice president of the Athens Community Food Pantry. “These funds will be used to purchase food and non-food items from the Regional Food Bank and local stores. Our mission is to provide food and supplies to households in our community struggling with food insecurity. We are grateful for your belief in and support of our mission.”
Founded in 1852, the National Bank of Coxsackie serves customers from Coxsackie to Glenmont.
