SLINGERLANDS — Pizza can be like a car, said Cosimo Crupi; while some are nice, a few can be luxurious.
That’s how Crupi starts to describe Pizza By Dominick. The pizza joint he runs with his brother, Dominick DeLeo, has been the go-to place for families.
“A lot of our customers, mom is at one place and dad is at another, so they walk in needing a quick bite to eat,” said Crupi.
That’s the kind of life, Crupi said, he sees most often with his customers. He said he sees it with families who are often split between two different activities. There’s dance practice next door, but a soccer game across town, and both are at the same time.
Local parents don’t necessarily struggle with finding a bite to eat for dinner. For more than 25 years, they’ve been walking into their Stonewall Plaza location on New Scotland Road to pick up a quick slice or an entire pie.
That convenience is always nice for jet-setting families. There’s also the matter of quality, said Crupi. The difference between an economy class car and a luxury sedan is the attention placed on the details.
Ask a pizza guy what makes a great pizza, and the conversation turns into an education. There’s the dough. What goes into the dough, and how long do you let it sit. Yeah. There’s a process that goes beyond waiting for it to rise. And, one simple question about his and his brother’s award-winning sauce turns into a half-hour, one-sided conversation; one, at which, I am unable to divulge the details.
“There is an attention to the details,” said Crupi. “That’s what makes the difference.”
