According to Forbes Magazine, less than one third of family businesses survive the transition from first to third generation ownership. Another 50 percent don’t survive the transition from the second to the third generation. Bryant Asset Protection and Bryant Asset Management have beaten the odds because of the professional and friendly customer service that helps to set them apart from the competition.
In 1951, Charles Bryant became one of the early adopters of the newly-formed independent insurance agency system. He believed that putting the client first and working for the client and not the company, he would build a business based on honesty and integrity. When his sons Jeff and Mark decided to come into the business, he took great pride in knowing the hard work of servicing the community’s needs for insurance would carry on.
Jeff began work with Charlie in 1979, and he came with his professional background as a property and casualty underwriter and CPCU. Jeff has two daughters, Alison and Ashley and a son, Conor. Jeff supports the Voorheesville community where he raised his family while serving on various boards. Jeff’s professional reputation has led him to accept fee-based consulting work based on his long time experience in the insurance field. The insurance agency Jeff manages has eight employees who service both commercial and personal clients.
In 1983, Mark came into the family business but brought a different type of expertise to the firm. Mark’s core work was in retirement income planning. Financial planning is what Bryant Asset Management does, managing more than $200,000,000 of assets for individuals and businesses. Mark became a Certified Financial Planning Practitioner (CFP) in 1997 and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) in 2012. Financial planning is like a puzzle with many pieces that have to align to make a complete picture. Many people spend more time planning their summer vacation than their retirement, and it takes a trusted advisor to create the proper roadmap.
The third generation of Bryant came on board in 2014. Conor Bryant had a six-year tenure at the large Boston-based financial firm Eaton Vance before joining the family firm. Conor brought with him the Certified Financial Planning Practitioner designation and now works closely with Mark. His knowledge and research from his work at Eaton Vance help to formulate many of the personal portfolios the firm manages.
Bryant Asset supports many community efforts including the “Generations Grant” that they award quarterly to outstanding projects. This grant is in memory of their parents, Carole and Charlie Bryant, who were for decades part of the fiber of the Bethlehem community. Bryant Asset has been the main sponsor of the Delmar Dash for 11 years.
