This time of the year, it’s hard to catch local business owner Bryan Bourque not on the move as Capital District residents gear up for the winter months.
Bourque Mechanical Services specializes in high efficiency gas services, air conditioning and geothermal systems. With a staff of 16 employees at the family-owned business, it offers 24-hour services for its systems.
Bourque started his company 29 years ago, with 25 years at his current 330 South St. location in Rensselaer.
“It started out as just myself and a pickup truck with little to lose,” said Bourque. “And I gradually built the business into what it is today.”
Bourque Mechanical offers installation and maintenance for both residential and commercial locations, and has partnered with leading names in heating and cooling systems. The company also offers Generac generators, as well as installation and service.
And, about eight years ago, Bourque began offering Geothermal Heat pumps, partnering with Climatemaster Geothermal Systems. The geothermal systems make use of the stable underground temperature using a piping system to provide heating, cooling and hot water with high efficiency, lowering a homeowner’s electricity bill and carbon footprint.
“They are a lot of fun to do and completely different from our norm,” Bourque said of the geothermal systems.
In order to keep up with the changing times, Bourque said he and his staff go to regular classes to become familiar with new technology, although he said he likes to keep things simple at his business by providing “old fashion good work at a fair price.”
“Sounds corny, but it really is what most people are looking for,” he said. “I really don’t pay a lot of attention to my competitors. We just concentrate on taking care of our customers’ needs and doing it fair.”
