When discussing the atmosphere of Ávila Retirement Community, Geri Curtin recalled how many of her residents likened the facility to a luxury cruise.
“On a cruise, everything is right there,” said Curtin, who is responsible for Avila’s marketing. Ávila is a full service retirement community for persons 60 years of age and older. The main facility houses 128 apartments and many of the communal amenities, which includes a fitness room, a bistro, a library, a pool, movie nights and cable television. And, with everything located centrally, it enables everyone to build friendships with one another. “That’s what it’s like right here.”
Other accommodations are available as well. Married couples may want to choose from the 23 cottages that are available. They include two-bedrooms, a den, a fireplace and garage.Another off-shoot of the main facility is The Lodge, which houses an additional 40 apartments. In all, there are 12 different floor plans to choose from.
Once you move into your new home your choices continue with delicious dining options prepared by our chefs, and an activity program jammed packed with trips, cultural events, educational seminars and a full fitness program.
Fitness classes include yoga, Tai Chi, and aerobics. The aerobics program includes a unique exercise involving hydro-riders — a modified bicycle designed to operate underwater
Mental wellness is addressed as much as physical wellness at Ávila. Monthly lectures are hosted, as well as access to the on-site library, arts and crafts are provided too to promote continued education and growth. And, for more stimulating entertainment, off-site excursions are regularly planned. Located in the recesses of Albany’s suburbs, Ávila is just minutes within Crossgates Mall and the New York State Thruway. Some of the many activities include visits Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Proctors, and Turning Stone.
“We have an activity director who likes to mix things up to have a little something for everyone,” said Curtin.
The focus of the customer service follows a credo ensuring the lives of those who live there remain simple.
“Our motto is ‘Live more, worry less’,” said Curtin. “We take the worry out of everyday life so they can just enjoy their golden years.”
