For nearly 70 years, many area residents have relied on the consistent quality of one family-owned business to provide top-notch products without top-tier prices.
Starting out in downtown Albany, Roma Foods Importing Company runs its thriving flagship store at 9 Cobbee Road in Latham, just off of Route 9. It’s focus over the years expanded from providing Italian foods and deli offerings to specialties from Greece, the Near East and most of Europe.
The company maintains simple ethos, which has proven successful decades later.
“We like to give our patrons excellent customer service with the finest quality and most reasonable price we can charge,” said Frank Bolognino, co-owner of Roma Foods. “That has been our secret to success since 1946.”
Frank took over the Latham-based business in the early 1970s after his father died suddenly. Within a few years, Frank’s three younger brothers joined him. Frank runs the Latham store with his brother, Peter, while his other brothers, John and Paul, run its Saratoga Springs storefront.
The variety of quality products, alongside excellent customer service, keeps shoppers returning to the family’s store.
One of the things Bolognino enjoys about his work is the interaction with customers and hearing about their families. “Sometimes I scratch my head over the amount of people I know on a first name basis,” he said.
There are several selections for catering options including appetizers, soups, salads, pastas, poultry dishes, chef specialties and deserts. A complete catering menu is featured on Rom Foods’ website, romafoods.com, but requests can also be made for items not listed.
Weeknight dinner specials are available Monday through Friday. Every day there is a 12-cut cheese pizza and 20 wings special for $19.95.
A tasty lunch can also be found through grabbing a tasty sub from the deli, with oven roasted turkey, roast beef and baked ham cooked in-house. There’s a variety of Boar’s Head and premium meats to select.
“We have a very good reputation on our subs and we use a local bakery for our bread,” said Frank.
Roma Foods’ is offering a Super Bowl promotion for $10 off long subs, along with other deals.
