Four years after buying Dave’s Glass, just about the only thing owner Michael Palmer hasn’t improved upon yet is changing the name of the business.
“For 33 years the prior owners provided quality glass installation and service, which is a hard act to follow,” Palmer said. “I am trying to take service to a new level from what was already a solid foundation.”
The Delmar business has more than three decades of experience installing, designing, glazing, repairing, sandblasting and cutting the necessity of life that is the company’s namesake. But when Palmer took the business over, he knew he could overhaul Dave’s Glass’ image and bring in customers not just through top-notch work, but unparalleled customer service.
“Our reputation is what we hang our hat on,” he said. “There’s a lot of competition out there. Our mission is to make every client happy.”
While Palmer’s “I don’t get paid unless you’re happy” policy results in the occasional bath, by and large it’s a way of doing business that garners a positive response from clients who might be used to service with an “attitude” from other glass shops.
For a small company, Dave’s Glass offers an impressive suite of services. They’ll replace, repair or install showers, windows, screens, mirrors, storm doors or auto glass, including replacing damaged glass from double pane, insulated glass windows.
But where the staff really shines is when it comes to custom work. Whether it’s a custom mirror to suit your remodeled bathroom perfectly, a frameless shower to complement it or a unique stained glass window to add the perfect glow to your living room, Dave’s Glass has the job covered. They’ll even do custom counters backsplashes and tabletops suited to the area you’re looking to fill.
The company also works commercial jobs and with contractors. Recently, Palmer designed a totally unique 10-foot-tall wine cooler for a new wine bistro in Loudonville. The owner, who liked the idea of antique mirrors but not their five-figure price tag, found the cooler to be exactly what the bar area needed at a price that pleased.
For Palmer, who bought the business during the recession, the best tip a customer can give is to pass on his or her experience with Dave’s Glass to a friend.
“When I first bought this business a little over four years ago now, it was struggling,” he said. “Fortunately, our reputation since then has done nothing but gone off the charts.”
