Demolition began Tuesday, March 12, on the rundown Latham Circle Mall, paving the way for construction for The Shoppes at Latham Circle.
Schenectady-based Jackson Demolition will continue to plow down the decrepit mall over the next month and then Boston-based Grossman Development Corp, LLC will begin construction on the new exterior plaza. The Shoppes at Latham Circle, set to be completed by fall 2013, will house two buildings – a 190,000 square-foot space and a 51,000 square foot space.
Both JCPenny and Lowe’s will stay with the new shopping center. While Regal Cinemas recently closed, Planning and Economic Development Director Joe LaCivita said the developers are looking into adding an entertainment component to the shops.
None of the new tenants have been announced, but LaCivita said one of the tenants needs to be moved in by October.
“It’s exciting to hear what kind of use will be coming in,” LaCivita said. “We’re only hearing tidbits.”
