COLONIE — The town closed the walking paths and waterfront around the pond at The Crossings after finding dead and sick waterfowl.
The town’s Animal Control Unit have removed the birds and sent them for testing. The pond at the park off Albany Shaker Road is a popular spot for Canada geese and other birds.
“Until test results are received, the town, in an abundance of caution, will be closing down the walking paths and the waterfront around the pond,” said Supervisor Peter Crummey.
Crummey said anyone visiting the park should respect the caution tape that temporarily surrounds the pond area.
And, the supervisor is reminding people to always stay away from the waterfowl, do not feed the waterfowl and avoid waterfowl feces that may be on the pathways and grass.
Anyone who sees any deceased or injured waterfowl are asked to contact employees at the park or to call Colonie police at 518-783-2744.
