COLONIE — The $5 million Phase IV of the South Colonie Central School District 2020 Capital Project is finishing up in time for classes to start on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Since the end of June, through traffic on Hackett Boulevard between Central Avenue and Sand Creek Road has been closed while new sidewalks and a bus loop were installed in front of the high school to improve accessibility and congestion during drop off times.
Across the district, the work included a combination of maintenance items, high priority safety initiatives and facility improvements.
Also at the high school a new roof was installed over the technology wing and there is ongoing work at the auditorium including new lighting and aesthetic upgrades. That work is expected to wrap up in December 2022.
And, new grass and a new irrigation system was installed over the summer at the high school baseball and softball fields.
At Sand Creek Middle School, work on a new technology classroom is still ongoing and expected to finish by the end of November. At Lisha Kill Middle School, a new electrical transformer was installed.
New cameras were installed at all eight schools in the district and each school now has new cafeteria furniture.
The final phase of Phase IV includes new or upgraded playground equipment at each of the six elementary schools. That work is expected to be completed by spring 2023.
