COLONIE — Dog walkers at the Ann Lee Pond Preserve beware — there is a beaver hunt going on.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture placed ominous signs around the picturesque pond warning dog owners to keep their pets on a leash because there are “traps, snares and other restraining devices” set up around the pond.
Mary Rozak, a spokesman for Albany County, which owns the preserve, said beavers built dams along Shaker Creek and it could cause flooding at the Albany International Airport.
“The airport has a contract with the USDA and rather than have our DPW, which is a little bit stretched at the moment, they said they would have the USDA go in and do it,” she said. “This is not the first time it has happened.”
This story will be updated with comments from the USDA and the airport.
