GLENMONT — Bethlehem police are searching for a suspect who broke into the local Walmart and smashed into a gun case before walking out the store with five long guns from its sporting goods section on Tuesday morning, May 10.
Bethlehem police said the stolen guns have since been recovered, along with property it said belonged to the suspect.
According to a statement released today, police were called to the Glenmont box store at 311 Rte 9W at approximately 1:16 a.m. for a burglary in progress. The suspect had allegedly forced entry into the store through the garden center entrance before proceeding to the sporting goods department and taking a fire extinguisher to smash open a gun case.
The suspect left the store with the long guns and fled to the wooded area near Bender Lane where the guns were later found with the help of the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police.
