COLONIE — Police are blaming pedestrian error for a fatal accident that occurred on Troy Schenectady Road.
According to Lt. Robert Donnelly, the pedestrian — identified as 75-year-old Daniel Minehan, of Troy — was trying to run across the Route 2 side of Troy Schenectady Road near Swatling Road at about 7:45 p.m. when he was struck by a 2013 Honda headed westbound.
The driver immediately stopped to check on Minehan, Donnelly said in a statement. Colonie EMS had already arrived as they had been on the way to another call in the area and were close by.
Minehan succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
“The driver of the Honda and a witness from another vehicle both stated the pedestrian was attempting to run across the dark roadway when the crash occurred. The driver was not in the crosswalk,” Donnelly said. “At this point it appears pedestrian error and environmental factors were factors in the crash.”
The Colonie Police Traffic Division is investigating the crash and are asking anyone who may have witnessed it, or have information relating to it to contact them at 518 782-2620.
