COLONIE — The village Boy and Girl Scout troops came together as part of a national Scouting for Food Program on Saturday, Nov. 14, and collected 3,582 items for local food pantries.
Scoutmaster Brian Casey said the troops have been participating in the event for a number of years and 2020 broke the 2019 record of about 2,500 items collected.
The food will be delivered to the food pantries at Pine Grove United Methodist Church on Central Avenue, Capital Church on Vly Road and the Village of Colonie Outreach Center.
“It is part of a national program but we keep what we collect right here in the community because, unfortunately, we do have some people in the community who need assistance,” he said.
