SELKIRK — A Styrene spill at SABIC in Selkirk has authorities issuing the evacuation of non-essential businesses within a half-mile of the facility.
“At this time the joint Command post is issuing a half-mile radius evacuation of non-essential businesses within the area of SABIC in Selkirk,” Bethlehem Police Cmdr. Adam Hornick said in a statement. “We are advising residents within one mile of the Selkirk SABIC to shelter in place. If you are being asked to evacuate emergency responders will be coming to your location.”
The spill occurred at about 6 a.m. this morning. Bethlehem Police and Selkirk Fire responded to a hazardous material incident. An unknown amount of Styrene was released from a rail car on the SABIC property. At this time there are no injuries reported.
