COLONIE — The driver of a Toyota Corolla lost control of her car Sunday afternoon and ended up inside Sweet Willy’s Pizzeria on Sand Creek Road.
There were four or five people in the car, said West Albany Fire Chief Dan Sullivan, and one was taken to the hospital for an evaluation of her injuries that were not deemed serious.
Colonie police were on the scene taking statements and it is not clear at this time if any tickets will be issued.
The pizzeria at 85 Sand Creek Road has been a staple in the West Albany neighborhood for more than 100 years.
Sullivan said there does not appear to be any structural damage, but the town building inspector was going to examine the one-story building before the car could be removed.
The restaurant was not open at the time.
“Thank God it was closed today,” Sullivan said. “On any day it is open it is a popular and busy place in our community.”
