COLONIE — Police are investigating a marijuana deal “gone bad” that involved a rollover accident and shots fired.

One person was detained and interviewed and are searching for two others, said Lt. Robert Winn.

He said on Thursday, July 9, the incident started as a marijuana deal that led to a gunpoint robbery and a car chase involving a white Jeep Cherokee and a black pickup truck.

At around 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, the white Jeep rolled over on Morris Road just north of the railroad tracks. The driver of the pickup tried to retrieve the stolen marijuana and they were fired at by one of the Jeep’s occupants.

The occupants of the white Jeep Cherokee fled the west from the accident into the woods along Morris Road. The driver of the pickup headed north on Morris Road. He was stopped by Colonie police on the Northway near Exit 4.

A spent shell casing was located near the rolled over Jeep and a large quantity of marijuana and cash were found inside the Jeep.

An extensive search was conducted for the occupants involving a Colonie K-9, a K-9 from the State Police, the Colonie PD Drone Unit, Guilderland police and Niskayuna police, but they were not located.

The two males are described as one white male and one Black, both average build and height and are believed to be in their late teens or twenties.

It is believed they stole bicycles from a nearby neighborhood to flee the scene. Blood was located at several locations, Winn said, leading to the belief that one or both are injured.

Morris Road was closed for several more hours as the investigations continues.

Winn said it is isolated event between the occupants of these two vehicles and there is no reason for residents in the area to be concerned.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Colonie Police Department at 518-783-2744 or they can anonymously contact the Capital Region CrimeStoppers.
