COLONIE — A 26-year-old social studies teacher at an alternative learning school in Hudson was arrested on charges of promoting and possessing a sexual performance by a child and criminal possession of an assault-type weapon.
According to Lt. Robert Winn, the State Police Computer Crimes Unit received a cyber tip about a residence at Coventry Court of possessed and transmitted images containing child pornography.
Colonie police executed a search warrant on Thursday, June 25 and arrested Sean Miller on three felonies: promoting a sexual performance by a child, possession a sexual performance by a child and criminal possession of a weapon.
The images involved pre-pubescent females who are not believed to be local. The investigation has not revealed any known victims in this area but “the nature of this offense and his access to children lead us to ask that anyone who has information or may have been victimized by this defendant to contact their local police department,” Winn said.
Miller’s computer devices were seized and will be forensically examined for additional illegal images/videos.
He was a teacher at The Warren Street Academy, an “alternative learning school for students struggling to succeed in academics,” according to its website.
“For many of our students, WSA is the only place they receive warm meals, endless love, support and nourishment,” according to the school’s website. “It is essential for us to provide support beyond academics. The emotional, physical and mental needs of our students are so great that simply focusing on education is not enough.”
The school is closing at the end of this month. Colonie police tried to reach administrators of the school but were not successful. Hudson police was advised of the arrest.
Miller arraigned by Town of Colonie Judge Norman Massry and was released under supervision of probation.
