COLONIE — A fire on Wednesday, April 1 did significant damage to a Tokay Lane home, displacing a family of three.
Midway Fire Department Chief Robert Sammons said the fire started on the back deck of 18 Tokay Lane and spread into the attic above the garage. The exact cause is still under investigation, he said, but it was possibly sparked by embers from a gas grill.
“There is quite a bit of damage,” he said. “It’s not a total loss, but it is not livable right now.”
The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. and crews had it knocked down within about 20 minutes.
The family was home at the time but was able to get out of the house without any injuries.
Midway was the lead department. It was assisted by firefighters from the Village of Colonie, Stanford Heights and the Town of Niskayuna.
