DELMAR — Witnesses described a loud crash and the ground shaking around the Adams Street substation as power was knocked out for more than 2,500 residents just after noon on Friday, March 13.
An apparent transformer failed at the National Grid substation located near the intersection of Adams Street and Hudson Avenue in Delmar. The power went out at approximately 12:05 p.m. in portions of Delmar and Elsmere, including shops in Delaware Plaza. The Hannaford Supermarket closed its doors as the store went dark.
Delmar and Slingerlands fire departments immediately responded to the call.
According to National Grid’s website, the power should be restored by 2 p.m.
