An illegal .22 caliber rifle recovered by Colonie police

COLONIE — Police recovered two illegal guns and arrested six people on two separate days during patrols of motels on Wolf Road and Central Avenue.

The first occurred on Saturday, Feb. 22 when patrol officers Ryan Berkery and Austin Blais spotted a vehicle going in and out of motels on Wolf Road.

GRAY

When the vehicle committed a traffic violation, the officers made a traffic stop near 50 Wolf Road. As the officers exited the vehicle, however, the driver, Shaif Sabb, 19, of Troy, took off and led officers on a slow speed chase that ended on exit 2W of the Northway when other officers were able to box him in.

Sabb was arrested and found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and marijuana.

A follow up investigation led officers to room 335 of the Red Roof Inn at 188 Wolf Road. There they found two people, Jayquan Gary, 20, of Albany, and Kayla Mercer, 21, of St. Johnsville, allegedly in possession of a loaded Kennings .22 caliber handgun.

They were arrested.

Two days later, at around 11:34 p.m., patrol officers Connor Anson and Ryan Howe checked an occupied vehicle outside Motel 6 at 1600 Central Ave.

MERCER

Three occupants were interviewed and the backseat passenger, Dellaney Wallace, 43, of Albany, was allegedly in possession of a loaded .22 caliber rifle with a defaced serial number and a sawed off barrel.

The front seat occupants, Robert Breedlove, 48, of Renssealer, and Victoria Plaza, 36, of Rensselaer, were allegedly in possession of cocaine and a cocaine pipe.

All three were arrested.

Charges for the six are as follows

•Gray: felony criminal possession of a weapon

•Mercer: felony criminal possession of a weapon

WALLACE

•Sabb: misdemeanors of unlawfully fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle as well as the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana and the violation of following too closely and failure to stay in a single lane

•Wallace: two felonies of criminal possession of a weapon and the misdemeanor of criminal possession of a controlled substance

•Breedlove: misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance

•Plaza: misdemeanor of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Gray and Mercer were arraigned in Colonie Town Court and sent to the Albany County jail. Sabb was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Wallace was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and released under supervision of probation. Breedlove and Plaza were released on appearance tickets.
