A deputy in the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 25 for sexually abusing two girls under the age of 13.
According to Sheriff Michael Zurlo, the abuse took place from several years ago to recently. One girl was less than 11 years old and another was less than 13. The abuse allegedly took place in the Town of Malta.
Steven Willetts, 40, of Malta, is accused of “engaging in oral sexual conduct with another person who is less than 11 years old and engaging in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a child less than 13 years old over a period of time not less than three months in duration.”
He was arraigned by Judge James Fauci in the Malta Town Court on the felonies of criminal sexual act and sexual conduct against a child and remanded to the Saratoga County jail in lieu of an unknown amount of bail.
Willett was suspended without pay. Zurlo said “the charges against him were not related to any official action and did not occur at a time when he was working.” The investigation is ongoing at this time, he said.
