COLONIE — Police identified the victim of a fatal fire on Friday, Nov. 29 as 68-year-old Roger Clemente.
Colonie Lt. Robert Donnelly said the resident of 43 Grandview Drive home died of smoke inhalation.
A neighbor called police just after 8 p.m. to report seeing a “glow” within the home and a “smoke condition” on the street, Donnelly said. Grandview Drive runs parallel to Route 9 and is behind what used to be the Latham Circle Mall.
Responding officers found the rear of the single family home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the Latham, Fuller Road, Shaker Road Loudonville fire departments responded.
They did enter the building but were forced back by the flames, Donnelly said. The body was found after the fire was extinguished.
There were no other victims. Clemente’s name was withheld until Saturday so authorities could notify the next of kin.
Colonie Fire Services and fire investigators with the Colonie Police Department are investigating and were on the scene Saturday morning. Debris could be seen outside the home and through where the front door used to hang.
