COLONIE — A 45-year-old New Jersey man was arrested after travelling to town with the thought of having sex with a 13-year-old girl he was communicating with online.
Instead, who Recep Sandikci met on Tuesday, Aug. 6 were members of the Colonie Computer Crimes Unit and he was arrested without incident.
According to Lt. Robert Winn, police were acting on a tip from the FBI and Coeymans police about Sandikci having inappropriate contact with a 13-year-old girl.
Colonie investigators assumed the identity of the girl, and continued communication. Sandikci had a “sexual conversation” with the “girl” and sent “her” nude photos before making the trip north.
He is charged with the felonies of attempted rape, possession of a sexual performance by a child and two counts of disseminating indecent material to a minor.
Winn said there are no known victims in the area, but Sandikci said he was a custodian at the New Providence Board of Education in New Jersey.
“They and the appropriate law enforcement were advised of his arrest,” Winn said.
Colonie police were assisted by the FBI Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force, the State Police and Coeymans police.
