COLONIE — Police released the victim’s name in a one-car accident on Central Avenue that happened on Saturday, Dec. 22.
Edith Sankowski, a 78-year-old from Schenectady, crashed into a tree near the old Hiro’s Restaurant at around 6:45 p.m.
Based, in part, on witnesses’ description of the accident, police believe she may have had a medical episode causing her to leave the roadway. She was the only person in the car at the time of the accident.
She was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital where the preliminary cause of death was listed as “multiple trauma due to motor vehicle accident,” according to Sgt. John O’Donnell.
