VOORHEESVILLE — The local music scene is rich with talent, but now one of the players within the community wants to help turn that into opportunities for children who are seeking out music.
Ambassador Music Group is throwing Rocktoberfest 2018, a one-day music festival at the Voorheesville Rod & Gun Club, on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m. It’s a 21-and-over event that will serve as a means for raising funds for the Voorheesville Friends of Music – a non-profit organization dedicated to funding music scholarships and music enrichment programs for children of the Voorheesville Central School District.
Voorheesville Friends of Music has served district children to pursue their musical careers with summer programs and scholarships. AMG’s Andrew Gabriel and Rose de Guzman caught wind of the non-profit group through their association with artist Syndey Worthley. Now, they wish to help raise funds specifically for scholarships and enrichment programs for children who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend.
“We want to provide as many kids an experience with music as possible,” said Gabriel. “Whether they stick with it or not, we feel it’s important for kids to be exposed to musical opportunities.”
Though the Capital District offers several opportunities for children to enroll is camps and specialty programs, the enrollment fees to attend can be a burden on family budgets. De Guzman shared how her family felt that first hand with her 11-year-old brother.

“I told my parents we should enroll him into summer camp, if just for the week,” she said. “We looked up prices and they were just so expensive.”
This festival serves AMG’s three goals of supporting local musicians and local businesses and helping children through music. The music lineup includes Sydney Worthley, Zan & the Winter Folk, C.K. & The Rising Tide, Bendt, and the Brian Kaplan Band.
The price of a $25 ticket will include food, beer, games, fire pits, and a whiskey and bourbon tasting. For tickets and information, visit amgrocktobergest.com.
The Voorheesville Rod & Gun Club is located at 52 Foundry Road in Voorheesville.
