COLONIE – Police are crediting the actions of two men passing by a beauty salon for possible saving the life of a woman who was attacked by her husband.
According to Lt. Robert Winn, the husband entered the Beauty & Bliss Salon at 2066 Central Ave. at around 4:30 p.m. and started stabbing his wife in the abdomen and arms.
The beauty salon was full of patrons and employees, he said in a statement, and while some tried to stop the attack, others flagged down two men who came to help.
They were able to disarm the husband and detain him until police arrived.
“All of their efforts prevented this from being a more serious or fatal attack and they have our utmost respect and gratitude for their heroic actions,” Winn said.
The identity of the men who stopped the attack was not readily available.
The first officers on the scene took the man into custody and began treating the female. She was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and underwent surgery. She was in the ICU as of 10:35 p.m.
The male had a knife wound to his neck that was determined to be self-inflicted. He was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was awaiting treatment.
The 49-year-old female and the 51-year-old male are both from Schenectady.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending formal charges.
More information as it becomes available.
