ALBANY — “It’s a simple story,” said Peter Wall of Star Roofing, “we do what we say we are going to do every day.”
Which is why the Colvin Avenue roofing company has been in business for 21 years.
“We not only provide a good roofing system, which of course we have to do, but we return phone calls and stick to schedules and provide building owners with the proper information throughout the project and after the project is completed,” he said. “We like to think of it as a customer experience rather than customer service.”
The sales pitch opens the door, but the company prides itself on following through with a top of the line roofing system, professional installation and it makes sure the site is clean when the project is done and following everything up with a warranty that goes beyond what the manufacturer promises.
The company is certified by the three largest shingle manufacturers – GAF, CertainTeed and Owens Corning – which means the installers have been through the factory training and the company is able to offer an extended warranty for up to 50 years that includes not only the shingles the entire roof system. That includes the underlayments, which are beneath the shingles but are crucial to protecting the roof, and the ridge vents.
The company does about 200 residential roofs per year and also does commercial and industrial work as well. Some of its larger clients include Albany Medical Center, the Albany International Airport and Pepsi bottling plant.
The company is fully insured, have workers certified by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and it has a brick and mortar office – located at 20 Colvin Ave. – where people can come and talk about a project and see samples.
“We do the most shingle roofs in this area and the reason.” Wall said. “We provide the service people expect and the warranties people deserve and we provide extended warranties because the manufacturers know us and they trust us.”
There is a huge turnover in the roofing business and even if other companies do offer warranties, there is little guarantee it will be around to honor it.
“We have been around for 21 years because we do the right thing every day,” Wall said. “That’s our story. That’s what we have been doing and that’s why we are one of the oldest roofing companies in the area and that’s why we are going to keep on doing it.”
