ALBANY — The Arena Football League’s newest franchise will host Dance Team Open Auditions at the Albany Capital Center on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 8 a.m.
The auditions are open to high school graduates of at least 18 years old with any dance experience.
The Dance Team is a pivotal part of the organization. It not only perform routines to entertain Albany fans at home games at the Times Union Center, but it represents the organization through appearances at team and community events, partner events and more.
The team has hired Edwina McCormick as the head choreographer. McCormick has danced for more than 20 years and has choreographed for more than 10 years. She was a member of her high school cheer and dance team and a competitive dancer on her college dance team.
“I am very excited to join the Albany AFL Team as the dance choreographer,” said McCormick. “I cannot wait for the dance team to entertain fans during home games and within the community.”
McCormick’s professional dance experience includes Arena Football, CBA, NBDL and the NBA (member of the Miami Heat dance team). She is an experienced hip hop teacher at various studios and college dance programs. Edwina has also trained under numerous choreographers who have performed and or choreographed for Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida and Pitbull. Currently she teaches hip hop and coaches a local college competitive dance team where she works as the business manager for the Division of Student Life.
A pre-registration fee of $20 can be applied by registering at albanyafl.com/team/dancers before Friday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. Registration after that day and time will require an application fee of $25 (cash or cashier’s check only).
Dancers are required to wear two-piece dance wear, including midriff top, lycra shorts and appropriate footwear. Please arrive to the Albany Capital Center by 8 a.m. to register.
Participants will be taught a routine and do not need to prepare their own. Applicants will be judged on dance ability, appearance, personality and attitude. All are encouraged to audition.
The Albany Capital Center is located at 55 Eagle Street in Albany. Parking will be available in the Market Street Garage for $5 per vehicle.
Player Tryouts
The Albany AFL team is looking for local talent to fill out it’s roster for the upcoming season and is holding player tryouts at the Sportsplex of Halfmoon on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 a.m.
Players will be tested on their 40-yard time and short shuttle with position-specific and one-on-one drills. Participants should bring appropriate workout gear and shoes.
There is a $65 online registration fee ($80 walk up), and players must be 18 years old by date of tryout.
The Sportsplex of Halfmoon is located at 6 Corporate Dr. in Clifton Park.
