Beginning Sunday, May 28, CDTA bus route #18 will be using Kenwood and Elsmere avenues on both the Eastbound and Westbound trips to avoid construction on Delaware Avenue.
The construction project, dubbed the Delaware Avenue Hamlet Streetscape Enhancement, is tentatively expected to end Oct. 17. The new route will remain in effect until the project is complete.
CDTA will blue bag the discontinued stops along Delaware Ave. to insure customers know they won’t be in use during the construction.
“With any project that will have a direct impact on our customers and the community, our goal is to provide the most convenient and safe alternative to customers as possible,” said CDTA Communications Manager Jaime Watson. “Our Planning and Transportation Departments work with the municipalities engineers and planners to determine the best possible reroute with the least impact to our customers and the community.”

#01430 Delaware and Becker Ter.

Enhancements planned for the Delaware Ave. corridor include: new sidewalks, crosswalks, curbing, on-street parking, new road pavement, street trees and decorative lighting fixtures. Under Delaware, a water line will be replaced and new storm drains will also be added during the course of construction. The project scope and design are the result of nearly a decade of community discussion and committee planning. $1.2 million will be funded through a NYSDOT grant and the town will cover the remaining $1.9 million.
