ALBANY— The first Latina to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court will headline this year’s Speaker Series at the University at Albany, the school announced on Wednesday.
Sonia Sotomayor, who is also only the third woman to serve on the court, will visit the school during the spring semester on April 4 in the SEFCU Arena.
Sotomayor, 62, whose parents are from Puerto Rico, was appointed to the court in August of 2009 by President Barack Obama. She is a Bronx native and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 1976, and law degree from Yale Law School three years later.
Past Speaker Series headliners have included Bill Nye the Science Guy, former President Bill Clinton, and “Humans of New York” creator Brandon Stanton.
