NEW SCOTLAND — Albany County Sheriff’s don’t believe speed played a factor in the death of a Colonie man who died while driving his motorcycle in New Scotland Saturday morning.
Emergency responders answered a call of a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Delaware Turnpike and Cass Hill Road in New Scotland at approximately 11:19 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. Initial investigations indicate Charles J. Burchhardt, 73, of Colonie, was riding with a group of approximately 60 cyclists when he attempted to turn off of Delaware Turnpike and onto Cass Hill Road. Reports state he failed to make the turn, left the roadway from its south shoulder, and proceeded to strike both a street sign and guardrail.
Burchhardt was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
