NEW SCOTLAND With a short deadline of a month and a half, town officials are in high ignition to find funds to move the historic LaVie barn.
After more than a year of attempts to save the barn were stalled, a Hail Mary came just before Christmas when George Kane, an heir to the Hilton family who originally owned the barn, decided to sell his land across the street in order to provide the barn a new home. Initially, King balked at selling his land.
“The town has been negotiating for the property that borders Hilton Road and the rail trail for most of a year,” said Councilman Adam Greenberg, when the question of the barn was brought up at the Tuesday, Jan. 12, Rail Trail update meeting in Voorheesville.
