At approximately 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, State Police from Troop G in Latham responded to a fatal accident in the southbound lane of the Northway located approximately a half-mile south of the twin bridges.
A 2006 Dodge Viper, driven by Matthew Fiske, 43, of Rotterdam, was allegedly speeding when the vehicle collided with a guardrail, left the road, went down an embankment, went airborne and hit a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and passenger Colleen Seidel, 45, of Clifton Park was taken to Albany Medical Center, where she is being treated for head and chest injuries.
New York State Trooper Sgt. Scott Dauphinias said that speed was definitely a factor, but reconstructing an accident scene can take roughly two weeks, and the toxicology report is not in yet. He added that Seidel’s family is visiting her at the hospital while she recovers. Troopers were able to notify Fiske’s family. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
