Each year, the Daily Meal website releases its list of the 101 Best Farmers Markets in America. Last year, Delmar was listed at No. 51. It dropped down a few spots this year to No. 54.
“This is a great honor for our market,” said President of the Board of the Delmar Farmers Market Mark Warford. “We appreciate the recognition, and this shows that what we are doing works. It’s a simple formula for us. We focus on our mission and work with our great vendors to bring the best to the community every week.”
The rankings include markets from across the country. The Daily Meal said certain qualities are considered when the list is created. These include the quality and variety of products sold, how affordable products are, and what kind of public endorsement and recognition the farmers market receives. Also considered is where the market is located, and how often it’s open.
The website said, “From vegetables and spices to vegan dip and fresh-baked items, the market is Delmar’s go-to source for the freshest and most flavorful ingredients and ready-made food.” Also cited was the market’s proximity to Albany and the fact most foods can be sourced within a 35-mile radius.
Warford said a lot of the credit goes to the market’s manager, Paul Tick, who “works so hard to coordinate things and keep the market running smoothly.”
Tick credited the community with making the market successful.
“We’re grateful to the whole community for the support it’s given for the farms and the farmers, for healthy food and for the environment,” said Tick.
The market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through December at the Bethlehem Middle School.
