UPDATE: By Tuesday morning National Grid reported power restored to Bethlehem customers, and a small pocket of outages in the Guilderland area near Tawasentha Park. Power there was expected to be restored by 9:30 a.m.
Storm gusts and heavy rain have left almost 5,400 National Grid customers without power, with the majority of outages occurring in the Town of Bethlehem.
National Grid’s power outage map as of 5:15 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, indicated around 4,440 customers in Bethlehem have lost electricity. This accounts for almost a third of the company’s 15,250 customers in the town. The company estimated power would be restored for all of the town by midnight.
Outside of Bethlehem, there are around 715 customers in the Town of Coeymans without power and 186 in the Town of New Scotland. Within the county there are also minor scattered outages through the cities of Albany and Cohoes, along with the towns of Colonie, Guilderland and Knox.
A National Weather Service preliminary local storm report issued at 4:50 p.m. on Monday indicated trees and wires were down, with a pole snapped, in Bethlehem Center. There was also reportedly a tree on a house on Hartman Road in Glenmont and on Kenwood Avenue in Delmar.
There are approximately 135,413 National Grid customers in Albany County, and around 4 percent without power.
