A Middle Grove man allegedly suffered from diabetic shock and crashed into a State Police patrol vehicle stopped in a work zone.
State Trooper George Varghese was involved in a traffic stop on the southbound shoulder of I-87 between exit 23 and 24at approximately 6:43 a.m., on Friday, June 28, when his 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe was struck in the left rear portion of his car, according to police. Stephen J. Milan, 58, allegedly struck the marked patrol vehicle with his 2010 Dodge Ram.
Police said Milan then continued without stopping, driving off the right shoulder several times before striking a guide rail near the Delaware Avenue overpass and straddling it. Milan was found to have allegedly suffered from a pre-existing medical condition.
Varghese and Milan were transported to Albany Medical Center and both were released. Varghese was treated for back and neck pain. Milan was treated for diabetic shock and an abrasion to his elbow.
