Welcome to … Reubenville?
That’s what motorists entering the Town of Coeymans have been asking themselves during the month of March.
The Town Board in late February elected to rename the town for a month as part of the Arby’s “Reubenville Challenge,” which promised 5,000 coupons for free Reuben sandwiches to the municipality that first altered its name for the month and changed its city limit sign.
The company announced today Coeymans – or rather, Reubenville – earned the prize.
The idea was brought forward by Councilman Thomas A. Boehm at a Feb. 25 Town Board meeting, minutes show. The resolution passed unanimously.
Boehm also supplied a temporary sign that was attached to the town limit sign.
An Arby’s spokesperson said the company has mailed to Town Hall 5,000 gift cards loaded with $6 each (the approximate value of a Reuben sandwich at the nearest franchise at Crossgate Mall) and it will be up to town officials to distribute them.
