The Town of Ballston Town Board has a seat to fill, effective immediately.
According to Supervisor Patti Southworth, Councilman Jeremy Knight sent a certified letter to the town clerk yesterday stating his resignation.
“I’m saddened, Jeremy was an asset to the board and the community. …He’s been a longtime resident…His decisions were always very well thought out and he always did an amazing amount of research,” said Southworth.
Knight was not immediately available for comment, but Southworth said his increased duties at the family farm, Knight Orchard, was a major reason for his resignation. She added Knight’s father has passed away since Knight took office and he’s on the farm a lot more than perhaps in the past.
“Because the resignation is effective today, the Town Board can appoint somebody immediately,” said Southworth. She declined to say when an appointment might be made but quipped a meeting coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 25 will be a very busy one.
With Southworth having left the Democratic Party in favor of the Independence Party, Knight’s resignation leaves no Democrats on the board. An appointment can be made by a majority vote of the board, where Southworth sits with three Republicans.
