The North Colonie Central School District Board of Education will petition the New York State Commissioner of Education to review the Special Election held on Jan. 31, following a vote to do so on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The Board will submit the petition due to discrepancies found with certain voting machine tallies, according to information from the district.
On the evening of the election, results showed W. Ronald Von Dell to be the winner over David Rosenthal by 248 to 246 but voting machines at Southgate and Loudonville Elementary School polling locations were found to have registered more votes than individuals who signed in to vote, according to information from the district.
At Southgate, 42 individuals signed in to vote but 69 votes were recorded on the machine when the polls closed and at Loudonville, 47 votes were recorded on the machine while only 46 individuals signed in to vote, according to the district.
There were eight total polling locations.
The district said Von Dell will remain on the Board until the Commissioner of Education acts on the district’s petition but if the commissioner decertifies the election, the Board will not fill the vacant seat until May, when the traditional Board of Education elections are held.
Both candidates have the option to file papers with the commissioner challenging the decision of the Board of Education if they choose.
