The Mohonasen Central School District community will get the chance to hear how the budget is being developed and give input during two scheduled Community Budget Forums.
The district is holding the first forum on Monday, Jan. 30, at the Mohonasen High School Farnsworth Technology Center at 6:30 p.m. The second meeting is scheduled a month later on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the same location and time. Both meetings are planned to conclude at 8:30 p.m.
The forums are planned to include a brief presentation, followed by small group discussions. Participants will be asked for feedback on budget related topics, such as potential budget cuts and tax levy increase. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP with District Communications Coordinator Adrienne Leon by emailing [email protected] or calling 356-8250.
Anyone unable to attend in-person can for the first time participate digitally in the district’s budget forums through online meeting technology. Online participants will be able to follow the discussion and contribute through a video and chat interface, according to the district. Information on the budget and online interface is on the district’s website at www.mohonasen.org.
District officials are projecting a $1.4 million budget gap, which is based on current state aid projections and the new state mandated property tax levy cap. There has been a trend of reduced state aid in the district and the district has made budget reductions the last three years.
Superintendent Kathleen Spring is predicting budget cuts will likely be needed again.
