Albany County Board of Elections officials have begun the process of counting absentee ballots in the Colonie supervisor race and according to a representative from the BOE, there are `quite a bit left` to count and a result is expected sometime Thursday, Nov. 17.
As of Election Day on Nov. 8, 944 of 1,238 absentee ballots had been returned, with Democrats returning 287 out of 394 and Republicans returning 398 out of 494, according to a previous Spotlight story.
Before absentee ballots are factored in, Supervisor Paula Mahan, D, leads Republican challenger Denise Sheehan by a 296-vote margin. Mahan declared victory on Election Night while Sheehan refused to concede, saying it was too early to call the race with absentee ballots yet to be counted.
