A traffic stop in Saratoga Springs ended in a felony drug arrest and endangering the welfare of a child, according to information from the police department.
Around 6:36 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, city police conducted a traffic stop on Monroe Street for the operator using a cell phone while driving, according to police reports. The driver was identified as Kevin Raphael, 32, of Henry Street in Saratoga Springs.
A search of the vehicle revealed more than two ounces of marijuana and 10 grams of cocaine within reach of a 7-year-old determined to be Raphael’s son in the front passenger seat, said police. Police allege that the marijuana was located in a shoebox at the child’s feet and the cocaine was located in the center console, according to police reports.
Raphael was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fourth degrees, felonies, and criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, according to police reports.
The child was released to the custody of a family member.
Raphael was remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
